Signs, Not Cents.
At times, it may seem as though money rules the world. Yet money is just one of many powerful engines. In truth, it is symbols that guide people. Signs and symbols surround us, influencing the course of events in ways that are often beyond our understanding.
Since ancient times, humanity has woven symbols into art to seek favor from higher powers. We selected a series of the most significant symbols and created 13 intricate panels made of coins. While money connects various aspects of life, in our project, it plays a supporting role rather than the lead. To emphasize this, we used genuine coins as our medium to construct the symbols themselves.
Each coin underwent a specialized process: they were hand-etched with acids and other treatments to achieve a spectrum of colors and patinas, highlighting their unique textures. The result is a gallery of large-scale, decorative ornamental panels.
